First Mothers' Day Essay Contest

Mother's Day Essay Contest: Support

doula support fredericksburg

At Doulas of Fredericksburg, we're all about support.  We support parents on their quest for knowledge through our Childbirth Education Classes. We support families as they grow in love and numbers as labor/birth doulas.  Come this June, we will support a smooth transition after the birth of a baby through our postpartum doula and placenta encapsulation services.  We like to call it "doula-ing" but since we grudgingly admit that's not a real word, we'll just say that support is kind of our gig.

And so this year for Mothers' Day, we want to say thanks to a woman in your life who has offered you that kind of support.  Someone who has unconditionally and completely used their talents and skills to serve, empower, guide, comfort and/or assist.

Write a 250-500 word essay on a woman who embodies that same spirit of support that we strive for at Doulas of Fredericksburg. Write about a woman who has supported the ever-loving-heck out of you, who just lives to support others in general, or a time in which you felt tremendously supported by someone else.  Email your essays (electronic submissions only, please) to by April 30th, with the subject "Mother's Day Essay Contest".

Both the subject and the author of the winning essay will each receive a $20 Gift Certificate to FoodE downtown ($40 total) with which to enjoy a meal on us.  If you choose to eat your meal together, even better!

A picture is not necessary to win, but if you have one you want to include, feel free to send one photo with the submission, which will be published if your essay is chosen as the winner.  We can't wait to read about the women who have supported you, and thank you in advance for your submissions!
