Gennifer Townsley- Labor Doula and Postpartum Placenta Specialist for Doulas of Fredericksburg
We are pleased to announce our newest addition, Gennifer Townsley, our newest Labor Doula and a Postpartum Placenta Specialist. The first thing we noticed about Gennifer is her powerful sense of humor, followed quickly by her passion for serving women in and around birth. She is an amazing addition to our team, and we feel confident our clients will get the best of her knowledge, skill and experience whether she joins them in labor or in their homes to provide the most high-quality placenta encapsulation available.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
My name is Gennifer Townsley and I am thrilled to be working as a Labor Doula and a Postpartum Placenta Specialist with Doulas of Fredericksburg. I live in Spotsy with my amazing husband, our six (yes six!) children, and our three pugs.
What is the best part of living in the Fredericksburg area?
All of my family is here. I’ll tell you what though, even though I’ve lived here all my life I still don’t know my way around!
What stirs your passions?
In life, I’m most passionate about raising my amazing children. A close second is helping animals. In my work, supporting my clients unconditionally and learning more about placentas, how they work, what their benefits might be to a mother after her birth.
What brought you to birth work?
I started out in nursing school, but soon discovered that I wanted a job that served not just patients, but whole families. I was drawn to birth because of it’s intimacy and potential to serve women, but I wanted a job where I could provide care based on a relationship established with the whole family. Being a doula is exactly the job I’ve always wanted, I just didn’t know it existed.
What is the best part of being a mother?
When my kids do the right thing even when I’m not around. The snuggles are amazing too!
How would your kids describe you?
Directly from them “positive, loving, caring, helpful, honest, reasonable”
What do you like to read/watch?
I like documentaries, Law and Order, MasterChef.
If someone were to ask you for the three best tips for a mom who just had a baby, what would you say?
Trust your instincts, ask for and accept help, soak up all of the good moments you can find, they truly pass so quickly.
Are you an indoor relaxation or outdoor adventure kind of girl?
I’m an on the go girl. I love family activities. I like educational things, we spend a lot of time at museums and historical sites.
Marathon or walk around the block?
Marathon all the way! I try to exercise three times a week at the YMCA. I recently took a boot camp class with my best friend, I’m excited to try new classes!
What kind of education and training do you have?
I am currently completing my national certifications for Labor Doula and Postpartum Placenta Specialist with ProDoula.
Cake or ice cream?
Ice-cream (which I may or may not be eating right now) is my guilty pleasure, but why does a girl have to choose? Ice cream cake! Best of both worlds!
What is one thing we are unlikely to know about you already?
I am a vegetarian and have been for 21 years.
What makes you the best doula for our clients?
My job is to support our clients in type of birth they want, no matter what that birth looks like. If you want education, I can help. If they want unbiased support, that's my specialty. Medicated or un-medicated birth, bottle or breastfeeding, cloth or disposable diapers, my support is unwavering and all-encompassing.
