After just one meeting, we knew that Jennifer was the perfect addition to our team. As an experienced doula in Virginia, she embodies the spirit of professional, compassionate and personalized support we demand of all of our affiliates. After even a short conversation, this beautiful soul leaves you feeling as though you can do anything, because she will take care of whatever you need to be your best YOU. Authenticity and knowledge are a powerful combination, and Jennifer has both in spades!
The Virginia Baby Company is proud to introduce our newest affiliate doula, serving Woodbridge, Stafford, Fredericksburg and Richmond: Jennifer Imholte!
How did you come to live in Virginia?
My husband got offered a position and with a week's notice, we moved our whole family across the country from Arizona. Talk about going with the flow! Coming from Arizona, I love how close we are to the beach (even though locals think I'm crazy) and being around all of this history.
Who lives in your house?
My husband and our three kids, Juliana (7), Ryzon (5) and Zorian (3).
What are you passionate about?
I'm passionate about making women feel confident in their choices, being a loving and caring mother, wife, and friend.
Why did you become a doula?
Birth is a powerful experience that I have been drawn to ever since I was a girl. After I had children of my own, I was able to see how doula work is the perfect intersection between my interests, my knowledge, and my passion for improving the birth experience for new families. Working with clients has only served to strengthen my understanding and enhance the experience for others.
For you: What is the best part of being a mother?
Seeing the best parts of you in your children, and watching their little personalities develop. They crack me up!
How would your kids describe you?
"A goofy woman who is always dancing".
What do you like to read/watch?
Anything that makes me laugh. I'm most recently enjoying Catastrophe. It's so wrong in all of the right ways.
If someone were to ask you for the 3 best tips for a mom who just had a baby, what would you say?
1) Trust yourself! You have everything you need within you!
2) Don't worry about what others think.
3) Survival is number one. Dishes can wait!
Are you an indoor relaxation or outdoor adventure kind of girl?
When the sun is out, I love to be outside (I am from Arizona, after all!). I love seeing new places and exploring new trails, and there are so many good ones here in Virginia!
What is your favorite restaurant in Virginia, and what do you order when you go?
BonChon in Fredericksburg-- I will order anything spicy.
Would we ever catch you running a marathon?
If you call walking around the block after my crazy kids a marathon, then yes. Surprise, surprise, I'm more of an aerobics girl, but only if I can move to a beat.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I kind of love Real Housewives of Atlanta. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it (and not just because they had a doula on the show!)
Best resource for a pregnant/new mom
A friend who is in the next phase ahead or an empty nester. They always know how to put things in perspective, and we can all use a little of that when life starts to feel a little myopic.
What kind of education and training do you have?
For my previous job, I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, but for this, I have training through DONA, years of learning and researching on my own, and now I'm currently undergoing a certification through ProDoula as well.
Cake or ice cream?
Neither, I like chips.
What is one thing we are unlikely to know about you already?
I love a good game of cribbage.
What makes you the best doula for our clients?
My focus on family. My ability to see you where you are, and help you feel confident and educated about decisions at such an important time, no matter where your birth and parenting take you. I will be your rock, your encyclopedia, your ear when pregnancy and birth get tough. With me, you will never be alone, and together with your partner we will find the answers you need.
